Produce can come in contact with many different contaminants, like dirt, pesticides, and people-handling residues.

Nature isn’t always the cleanest place, and between the field where it’s grown and the plate where it’s served, produce can be handled by many different people, and come in contact with many different contaminants, like dirt, pesticides, and people-handling residues.

Fit Fruit & Vegetable Wash is committed to cleaner produce, and removes 98% more dirt, pesticides, people-handling residues and other contaminants vs. washing with water alone. The following produce safety tips have been taken from the US FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.

Follow these simple tips when eating fresh fruit and vegetables:

  • Purchase produce that is not bruised or damaged. Otherwise, cut away any damaged or bruised areas.
  • All produce should be thoroughly washed before eating. Even if you plan to peel the produce before eating, it is still important to wash it first.
  • Scrub firm produce with a clean produce brush.
  • Drying produce with a clean cloth or paper towel may further reduce bacteria that are present.
  • Keep fresh fruits and vegetables separate from meat, poultry and seafood products. This applies when bagging them to take home from the market, storing them at home, and preparing them for use.
  • Refrigerate pre-cut or peeled produce to maintain quality and safety.
